He played football, basketball, and baseball at Lincoln High School in Florida.
Over the course of his career, he hit right-handed pitching significantly better than lefties, which limited his playing time.
He was born and raised in Tallahassee, Florida.
The mercurial Albert Belle was his teammate on the Indians.
