ABOUT REGINALD VELJOHNSON
Actor known for starring as Carl Winslow on the ABC sitcom Family Matters from 1989 to 1998. He also played Sgt. Al Powell in the action films Die Hard and Die Hard 2 . From 2011 to 2015 he portrayed Dash DeWitt in the CW series Hart of Dixie .
He earned a bachelor's degree from New York University and before beginning his acting career, changed his name from Reginald Vel Johnson to Reginald VelJohnson, losing the space with the hope that his name would stick out more.
He made his big screen debut in the 1981 feature Wolfen. Three years later, he played a police officer in the hit comedy Ghostbusters . He was a contestant on season 33 of Dancing with the Stars .
He was born to Eve and Reginald Johnson, Sr.
He appeared alongside Tom Hanks in the 1989 film Turner & Hooch.
