Indian actress most famous for her performances in Tamil films like 1998's Thalaimurai and Malayalam films like 2012's Molly Aunty Rocks! She is one of the most heavily-awarded Indian actresses of her era, earning multiple Filmfare Awards and Cinema Express Awards.
She got her start in the entertainment industry as a model. She made the move to acting when she was spotted by director Bharathiraja on the cover of a magazine.
In 2002, she made her directorial debut with the English-language film Mitr, My Friend.
She was married to actor Suresh Chandra Menon from 1986 to 2013. She is the cousin of actress Geetha Vijayan.
