ABOUT RICHARD CARPENTER
One-half of the musical duo The Carpenters who co-composed "Goodbye to Love" and "Only Yesterday," among others. His song "Top Of The World" has accumulated more than 130 million streams on Spotify.
He studied music at California State University at Long Beach. His early groups consisted of Spectrum and The Richard Carpenter Trio.
His sister's struggle with anorexia greatly affected him, even contributing to his abuse of Quaaludes. He released his first solo album, Time, in 1987.
He married Mary Carpenter on May 19, 1984, and they had five children together.
His sister Karen Carpenter was the other member of The Carpenters.
