Former marathon runner from Australia who won a gold medal at the 1983 World Championships in Helsinki. He is also a four-time champion in Australian cross country.
He competed in his first World Cross Country Championship in 1977.
He was named Australian of the Year in 1983.
He is part of a prominent sporting family, his brother having competed in four World Cross Country Championships.
His time of 2:08:18 at the 1981 Fukuoka Marathon surpassed the record set by Alberto Salazar at the 1981 New York Marathon.
