Lead guitarist of the London progressive rock band King Crimson. He has also been a studio musician for artists like David Bowie .
He responded to an advertisement for a singing organist, despite not being able to do either.
After his first band broke up, he and the drummer from it decided to form King Crimson.
He married Toyah Willcox , a singer and actress, in 1986.
He worked with David Bowie on the album Scary Monsters (and Super Creeps).
