ABOUT ROBERT GORDON MENZIES

Australian politician known for his time as Australia's 12th prime minister from 1939 to 1941 and 1949 to 1966. He is remembered for helping to create the Liberal Party of Australia. Between his two terms, he was Australia's longest-serving prime minister with a combined total of 18 years 5 months and 10 days.

He studied law at the University of Melbourne and worked as a lawyer before turning to the political field.

He was the first Australian prime minister to fly overseas after traveling to England in 1941.

He grew up as one of five siblings to Kate and James Menzies. He married Pattie Leckie in 1920 and the couple had four children.
