ABOUT ROD GILBERT
NHL Hall of Fame right winger who was the first New York Ranger to have his number retired.
He was almost killed by a freak injury, but after a long recovery financed by the Rangers, he finally rejoined the team.
He held the right wing on the Rangers' GAG (Goal-a-Game) line, while Jean Ratelle was at centre, and Vic Hadfield was on the left.
He grew up in Montreal, Canada.
He was one of Andy Warhol 's painting subjects for his 1979 Athlete Series.
