ABOUT SANDY AMOROS
Cuban left fielder nicknamed "Sandy" who is best remembered for his stellar performance in game seven of the 1955 World Series as a member of the Brooklyn Dodgers. He had previously won a gold medal representing Cuba at the Central American and Caribbean Games in 1950.
He was born in Havana and was signed by Dodgers scout Al Campanis in 1951.
He drew the ire of Cuban dictator Fidel Castro by refusing to manage the Cuban national team.
He married Migdalia Castro in 1954 and had a daughter named Eloisa.
He won the 1955 World Series alongside Dodgers left fielder Hank Bauer .
