ABOUT RUSSELL W. PETERSON

Politician who was the Governor of Delaware from 1969 to 1973 as a Republican. He became a Democrat in 1996 and has been a strong advocate for environmental causes throughout his career.

He received a B.S. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1938, and then earned a Ph.D in Chemistry in 1942 while working as a dishwasher.

He was the chairman of the Council on Environmental Quality as well as the President of the National Audubon Society.

He married Lillian Turner in 1938 and together they had four children, before she passed away in 1994. He then married his second wife, June Jenkins, in 1995.

Robert Redford narrated a television series he financed called, The World of Audubon.
