Russell Stover
ABOUT RUSSELL STOVER
Founder of the eponymous chocolates and candy company Russell Stover Candies.
He and his wife tried their hand at farming early on, but gave up after heavy rains destroyed their crop. Instead he went to work for a candy company.
He was an amateur chemist and discovered a way to coat ice cream in chocolate without it melting. His Eskimo pie created a national, albeit short-lived, sensation.
He was born in Kansas, but spent much of his youth on his grandfather's Iowa farm.
He and Milton Hershey both founded candy companies that survived long after their respective deaths.
