ABOUT RYAN BURNETT
Irish bantamweight who became the unified bantamweight world champion upon his October 2017 victory against Zhanat Zhakiyanov to win the WBA bantamweight title. He had previously won the IBF bantamweight title in June 2017 in a bout against Lee Haskins.
His interest in boxing began at age 4. His pinnacle youth achievement came in 2010 at the Youth Olympic Games when he won the gold medal in the boxing light flyweight division.
He won the WBC's then-vacant International bantamweight title in February 2016. He previously won the British bantamweight title in November 2015 by defeating Jason Booth.
He has three brothers.
He trained at the same gym as Carl Frampton as a young boxer in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
