American journalist who has gained fame for his culture and lifestyle coverage at the New York Times. He is the author of the bestselling cookbook The New York Times Cooking No-Recipe Recipes.
He studied history and literature at Harvard University from 1984 to 1988.
He has worked for a number of publications besides the New York Times, including American Heritage and New York Press.
His wife, Tina Fallon, is a theatre producer. His maternal grandfather was the famous theologian Reinhold Niebuhr .
In 2009, he succeeded Frank Bruni as restaurant critic for the New York Times.
