ABOUT SAM ZEMURRAY
After immigrating to America as a teenager, he became a businessman who made his fortune in the banana trade.
He never attended any formal educational institution.
His nickname was Sam the Banana Man.
He grew up in a poor Jewish family in current-day Moldova and in Selma, Alabama.
He was a supporter of Franklin D. Roosevelt and helped him draft the Agricultural Adjustment Administration industry codes.
