Sammy Byrd
ABOUT SAMMY BYRD
Former professional baseball player and golfer who played for the New York Yankees and Cincinnati Reds during his eight year MLB career. As a golfer, he won six PGA Tour events from 1942 to 1946.
He was born in Bremen and grew up in Birmingham, Alabama.
He became the first athlete in history to compete in both an MLB World Series and a Master's Tournament.
His father was Roan Byrd.
He was the runner-up to Byron Nelson at the 1945 PGA Championship.
