English engineer who made a mark on the Industrial Revolution with his invention of the spinning mule.

He started helping his parents spin yarn to make ends meet at the age of five.

He gave British textile mills away so he could focus on ways to produce fine cotton faster.

He went into partnership after his wife's untimely death selling bleach with his two sons.

He and Eli Whitney were contemporaries. Whitney made another invention that helped cotton to be made faster and cheaper.
