ABOUT SERGEI YESENIN
Russian poet, artist, and writer who was known for his works Radunitsa (1916), Inoniya (1918), and the collected poems of Sergei Yesenin (published posthumously in 1961).
He began writing poems when he was just nine years old. He attended university in Moscow at the young age of 17. His first poetry was published in journals in the year 1914.
He was interested in Russian folklore and oral tradition and incorporated these themes into his work. He would sometimes recite his poetry wearing traditional Russian peasant folk costumes. His death sparked a wave of copycat suicides among his female fanbase.
He was born and raised in Konstantinovo in Ryazan County, Russia. His parents were peasants. He was mostly raised by his grandparents because his parents struggled to financially support him. He was briefly married to Isadora Duncan . He married a total of 5 times. He had three children. He died on December 28, 1925 after hanging himself.
He is credited with starting the Imagist movement which is also associated with American poet Ezra Pound . His literary idol and mentor was Alexander Blok .
