ABOUT SESSUE HAYAKAWA
Japanese American actor who became known as the premier Asian leading man in Hollywood and gained stardom through his charisma. His film credits include Disney's 1960 film, Swiss Family Robinson, Three Came Home, and Bridge on the River Kwai.
He wanted to serve in the Japanese Navy, but was not qualified due to an inner ear injury. He went on to study economics in the United States.
He was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for his portrayal of Colonel Saito in the 1957 WWII film, Bridge on the River Kwai.
He married actress Tsuru Aoki in 1914 and they remained married until her death in 1961.
He starred in his first "talkie film," Daughter of the Dragon, in 1931 alongside actress Anna May Wong .
