ABOUT SHAKEEL BADAYUNI
Urdu-language poet and lyricist who won three Filmfare Best Lyricist Awards during the early 1960s. His acclaimed songs include "Chaudvin ka chand ho" and "Kahin deep jale kahin dil."
He attended the Aligarh Muslim University, where he participated in numerous poetry readings.
He and Indian film music composer Naushad Ali teamed up to write scores for movies such as Baiju Bawra (1952) and Mother India (1957).
His father, Mohammed Jamaal Ahmed Sokhta Qadiri, paid for his childhood lessons in Urdu, Persian, Arabic, and Hindi.
He and fellow poet/lyricist Jan Akhtar both became known for their Urdu-language verse.
