Shamsur Rahman
ABOUT SHAMSUR RAHMAN
Award-winning Bengali poet and journalist who penned over sixty collections of poetry. He was a recipient of both the Bangla Academy Award and the prestigious Ekushey Padak.
He studied English Literature at the University of Dhaka. He published his debut poetry collection, Prothom Gan Ditio Mrittur Age, in 1960.
He wrote in free-verse and employed a Bengali rhythmical pattern known as Poyaar.
He and his twelve siblings were raised in the village of Pahartoli, Bangladesh.
He and Kazi Nazrul Islam were both renowned Bengali-language poets.
