ABOUT SHANI CROWE

Fine artist known for turning braids into stunning artwork. Influenced by beauty ritual and the African diaspora, she has lead numerous solo exhibitions throughout Chicago.

She completed a BFA in film production from Howard University in 2011.

In 2014, she scored her first solo exhibition, "HighCoup," at the Elee.Mosynary Gallery.

She grew up having her aunts and cousins braid her hair. When they couldn't do the designs she wanted, she started doing her own braids.

Both she and Stephanie Sarley are artists who gained a following on Instagram.
