Shirley Kaufman
ABOUT SHIRLEY KAUFMAN
American poet known for Rivers of Salt, Gold Country, The Floor Keeps Turning, and other collections. She was a 1979 recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts fellowship.
She graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1944.
Her parents were Polish immigrants who settled in Seattle, Washington.
She married Dr. Bernard Kaufman, Jr., with whom she had three children. Her second husband was Hillel Matthew Daleski.
She and poet Jack Gilbert attended San Francisco State University at the same time.
