ABOUT SIMON JENKO
Nineteenth-century Slovene poet, author, and lyricist. He wrote primarily in the prose realism and patriotic poetry genres.
He studied at the University of Vienna, attending classes in history, philology, and law.
His name was given to the prestigious Jenko Award, a Slovene literary prize awarded annually to poets.
He was the illegitimate child of peasants. His cousin, Davorin Jenko, was a musical composer.
He was a literary contemporary of fellow Slovene author Ivan Cankar .
