She and LL Cool J grew up in Queens, New York. They met when he was 19 years old.

She battled through stage III chondorosarcoma in 2004. Her surgery required her to go through two and a half years of rehabilitation to learn to walk again. She and LL have children named Najee, Italia, Samaria and Nina .
