ABOUT SOMBHU MITRA
Pioneer of Bengali theatre, stage actor, and director known for productions like Rakta Karabi and Chand Baniker Pala.
He attended St. Xavier's College at the University of Calcutta and made his Bengali theatre debut in 1931.
He was given the Sangeet Natak Akademi Fellowship for lifetime contribution in 1966, the highest award given by the organization.
His father worked for the Geological Survey of India.
Both he and actor Shashi Kapoor were awarded the Padma Bhushan by the Government of India for their contributions to Indian society.
