She was a soprano in a children's choir. She was the head of her Berlin-located school newspaper called Sophie's Mirror.
She attended Bryn Mawr College to obtain her Bachelor of Arts in international/global studies. She spent a semester at the University of Cape Town as part of a study abroad program.
She is from Berlin, Germany, but later lived in the United States in Philadelphia and New York City.
