Television and film actor who earned a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for his supporting role in the HBO miniseries John Adams . He also had a recurring role in HBO's Game of Thrones . As a stage actor, he won a Tony Award for his starring role in The Real Thing.
He worked briefly as a journalist with the London paper, The Croydon Advertiser.
He became known for his supporting roles in the 2001 film, Spy Game, and the 2002 film The Hours .
He had two sons, Frank and Seamus, with actress Naomi Wirthner. His brother, Richard Dillane , is also an actor.
