ABOUT STEVE ABBOTT

Renowned Australian comedian, author, and media personality who took the world by storm with his persona, "The Sandman." He catapulted to fame with his deadpan radio segments on Triple J and his features on comedic television programs such as Good News Week and The Fat. Throughout his career, he has authored numerous books, original songs, and even stage plays. He has also hosted a podcast about birdwatching called Birdbrain.

Growing up, he was often known as the class clown among his peers, regularly drawing humor and inspiration from his experiences living in the Australian outback. After completing his education, he performed at various open-mic nights before he co-founded the acclaimed comedy troupe known as The Castanet Club.

In 2004, he co-produced the SBS documentary film Sandman in Siberia, which featured a personal journey in which he traces back his ancestral roots with his mother. The documentary went on to become one of the network's most popular and highest-rated programs of the entire year.

His documentary Sandman in Siberia prominently featured his mother, Evelyn Abbott, as they traveled together to trace their shared Russian heritage.

He starred on the comedy series Good News Weekend and GNW Night Lite alongside fellow comedian Paul McDermott .
