Steven Arnold
ABOUT STEVEN ARNOLD
American artist and filmmaker who rose to fame for his student film Messages, Messages. His 1971 surrealistic fantasy film, Luminous Procuress, earned him the New Director's award at the San Francisco International Film Festival. He later won acclaim for his photographs, paintings, and assemblage sculptures.
He attended the San Francisco Art Institute and the École des Beaux-Arts.
His works have been featured at the Whitney Museum of American Art and the Museum of Modern Art. He was profiled in the 2019 documentary film Steven Arnold: Heavenly Bodies, which was narrated by Anjelica Huston .
His sister was a fashion model. He died from AIDS.
He befriended Spanish surrealist painter Salvador Dalí in the 1970s.
