ABOUT SYDNEY CARTER
Twentieth-century British songwriter, musician, and poet. He is best remembered for writing and performing the song "Lord of the Dance."
He studied history at Balliol College, Oxford and went on to work for a volunteer ambulance unit during World War II.
He worked in the 1950s as a lyricist for musical revues.
He was married twice; his second marriage, to Leela Nair, produced a son named Michael who grew up to be a neurosurgeon.
He co-produced a musical album with acclaimed actress Sheila Hancock .
