He started out playing with the Japanese soccer club Azul Shiga starting at the age of five. He moved to Spain after being scouted by Real Madrid and began playing for them in 2014.

He is nicknamed "Pipi" in Spain. He played for Japan's U15 national team in 2018.

He was born in Ōtsu, Shiga, Japan. He lives in Madrid with his mother, brother and sister. His transfer to Real Madrid came under investigation by FIFA, but his mother testified that she had moved to Madrid after she divorced his father.

He has caught the interest of several legendary soccer players, including Raúl González and Zinedine Zidane who both expressed their admiration of him.
