ABOUT TAWFIQ ALHAKIM
An Egyptian writer of Arabic-language novels and plays, he is best known for his 1933 drama The People of the Cave. His other works include The Return of the Spirit (a novel) and A Man Without a Soul (a play).
His first play, A Bullet in the Heart, was published in 1926.
He wrote three types of plays: biographical dramas; works of intellectual theater (plays meant to be read rather than performed); and plays on the topic of Egyptian society.
He was the son of an Egyptian father and a Turkish mother.
He was a contemporary of American author Ernest Hemingway .
