Theodoros Stamos
ABOUT THEODOROS STAMOS
Pioneering Abstract Expressionist painter who was a contemporary and friend of Willem De Kooning and Jackson Pollock .
He attended the American Artists School, where he became inspired by the work of Georgia O'Keeffe. He was taught by Joseph Solman, who belonged to The Ten.
His artwork was first exhibited at the Wakefield Gallery and Bookshop.
He was born in New York to Greek immigrant parents, with his mother hailing from Sparta and his father from Lefkada.
He was a close friend of Mark Rothko and served as executor of Rothko's estate. Unfortunately, Rothko's daughter sued Stamos for the improper and fraudulent handling of her father's paintings.
