ABOUT THOMAS MOORE
Irish poet, lyricist, and singer who became famous for his lyrics to the popular song "The Last Rose of Summer." He is also known for "The Minstrel Boy" and numerous other works.
The son of a Dublin grocer, he studied law in London.
His poems were set to music by Benjamin Britten , Robert Schumann , and other prominent composers.
His happy marriage with actress Bessy Dyke produced five children.
His popular songs were quoted by James Joyce in Dubliners.
