Tommy Gemmell
ABOUT TOMMY GEMMELL
Scottish football player, athlete, and manager who was known for playing as a fullback for the Celtic FC, where he helped win the 1966-67 European Cup for his team by scoring the first Celtic goal in the final. He was also known for managing Dundee and Albion Rovers.
He played soccer in his youth and began playing soccer on a professional juvenile level as a teenager. He joined Celtic FC in October of 1961. He made 418 appearances for Celtic and scored 63 goals while he was with the team.
He was the author of the book Lion Heart (2012). He also scored a goal in the 1970 European Cup final. He stood six feet, two inches tall.
He was born in Craigneuk, Scotland, but raised in Lanarkshire. He died on March 2nd, 2017 after suffering from a long illness.
His funeral was attended by Brendan Rodgers . He played alongside Jimmy Johnstone for the Celtic FC.
