ABOUT TRISTRAM CARY
One of Australia's most famous and prolific composers. He was considered to be a pioneer of electronic and tape music. He co-founded the Electronic Music Studios (London) Ltd., which brought to market the first commercially available portable synthesizer.
He was a radar engineer for the Royal Navy during World War II. After the war, he opened one of the earliest electronic music studios.
He composed music for "Doctor Who's" first Dalek story line. He also composed the soundtracks for "Quatermass and the Pit" from 1967, and "Blood from the Mummy's Tomb" from 1971.
His father was Joyce Cary, a famous pianist and novelist who wrote "Mister Johnson." He settled in Suffolk for a time, then died in Adelaide.
He composed the music for the 1955 black comedy "The Ladykillers" starring Alec Guinness .
