Jazz drummer who played with Carroll Dickerson's Orchestra and who also played with King Oliver, Jimmie Noone, and Johnny Dodds .
He served in the United States Army for two years.
He was greatly admired by peers and critics alike, including swing and big-band drummer Gene Krupa and jazz critic Hugues PanassiƩ.
His younger brother was Minor "Ram" Hall who also became a professional drummer.
He performed with Louis Armstrong both on stage and in Armstrong's early 1930s movies.
