Soviet cross-country skier who won two gold medals at the 1972 Winter Olympics, in the 30 km and 4 x 10 km races.
He competed in his first Olympics in 1968 and won silver in the 50 km event.
He won a total of four gold medals between the Olympics and World Championships.
His father Alexandr Vedenin was also an athlete that started his son on skiing at a young age.
He competed in the 1968 Olympics where skier Jean-Claude Killy won three gold medals.
