ABOUT W. EUGENE SMITH
American photojournalist who became recognized for his pictures of World War II, the city of Pittsburgh and Dr. Albert Schweitzer 's clinic in French Equatorial Africa. His images also helped reveal the excessive pollution in Minamata, Japan.
His photos had been published in The Wichita Eagle and The Wichita Beacon by the time he was 15 years old.
In 1948, he shot a series for Life magazine called Country Doctor that many consider to be "the first extended editorial photo story."
His mother's name is Nettie and his father's name is William. He and his wife Aileen raised 2 daughters named Juanita and Marissa and a son named Kevin.
He was portrayed by actor Johnny Depp in the 2020 film Minamata.
