Walter Tull

ABOUT WALTER TULL

Forward who played professionally from 1908-1918 for Clapton, Tottenham Hotspur, Northampton Town, and the Rangers. He served in the Middlesex Regiment during the First World War.

He began his education at Mundella Primary School.

He fought in the Battle of the Somme in World War I and was later killed in action during the Spring Offensive.

He grew up in Kent, England with his parents Daniel Tull and Alice Elizabeth Palmer.

As the first mixed-race person to become a commissioned officer in the British Army and the second to play in the top division of British soccer, he helped break down barriers much like Jackie Robinson .
