ABOUT WILLIAM BOLCOM

Pulitzer Prize- and Grammy Award-winning composer and pianist who was named Composer of the Year by Musical America in 2007. He was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Music for "12 New Etudes for Piano" in 1988.

He enrolled at the University of Washington when he was 11 to study composition. He studied composition with George Frederick McKay and John Verrall.

He was awarded the National Medal of Arts in 2006.

His family was residing in Seattle when he was born. He often collaborated with his wife Joan Morris.

He won three Grammy Awards for his setting of "Songs of Innocence and of Experience" by William Blake .
