William Whitelaw
ABOUT WILLIAM WHITELAW
British Conservative Party politician who was the Deputy Prime Minister from 1978 to 1988. He also served as the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland from 1972 to 1973.
He attended Trinity College, Cambridge and was awarded a blue for golf.
He was forced to resign after suffering a stroke.
His father died fighting in World War I when he was a baby.
During his career he worked with Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher .
