International Boxing Hall of Famer who fought an astounding 241 fights during his career with a record of 229-11-1. He had 65 knockouts and is widely considered one of the best fighters of his generation.
He began his amateur fighting career in 1937 in the midst of the Great Depression.
The International Boxing Research Organization named him as the best featherweight boxer of all time in 2005.
He was born Guglielmo Papaleo.
He had a spirited rivalry with Sandy Saddler , with whom he traded World Featherweight Championships in the late 40's and early 50's.
