ABOUT WINNIE HOLZMAN
Screenwriter and dramatist famously known for creating the ABC television series My So-Called Life and writing for the shows thirtysomething and Once and Again . She also co-wrote the book for the stage musical Wicked . She has earned a scriptwriting Emmy Award nomination for My So-Called Life and a Tony Award nomination for Best Book of a Musical.
She earned a degree in English with a concentration in Creative Writing from Princeton University before going on to earn her master's degree in musical Theatre Writing on full scholarship from New York University . There, she was taught by some of the biggest names in music and theatre production, including Stephen Sondheim and Leonard Bernstein .
She has acted in several cameo roles within her own TV shows as well as guest appearances on the show Curb Your Enthusiasm and a small role in the film Jerry Maguire .
She was born into a Jewish family. Her brother, Ernest Holzman, is a cinematographer. She married actor Paul Dooley in 1984. They have a daughter named Savannah.
She created the television series My So-Called Life, which launched the careers of several future high-profile actors, including Claire Danes , Jared Leto , and Wilson Cruz .
