An influential sports columnist for the Denver Post who also regularly paneled ESPN's talk show Around the Horn and co-hosted Cold Pizza.

After graduation the University of Tennessee, he wrote for the Knoxville Journal and the Rocky Mountain News of Denver, joining the Post in 1981.

As a longtime sports journalist, he became a member of the Hall of Fame selection committees of both the MLB and the NFL.

He was born in Memphis, Tennessee.

Stephen A. Smith was another popular ESPN sports show host.
