Yiech Pur Biel
ABOUT YIECH PUR BIEL
Former Olympian and ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. During his professional racing career, he competed in the Men's 800, 1600, 5K and 10K events. In February 2022, he became the first ever UNHCR refugee to be selected as a member of the International Olympic Committee.
He first began racing competitively in 2015 at the age of 20. One year later, he earned a chance to race the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
He has competed in Olympic competitions as both a player and manager. He is a huge sports fanatic. In addition to racing, he also loves to play sports such as basketball, soccer, volleyball and swimming.
He is a native of Nasir, Sudan. Due to a civil war in his native country, he was forced to leave Nasir as a child.
He competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics just like Michael Phelps and Usain Bolt .
