He won gold medals at the Pan American Games and 2004 Olympic Games.
He became the first Cuban boxer to hold the IBF world title.
He sold his Olympic gold medal to support his family.
He signed a promotional contract with Money Team Productions, founded by Floyd Mayweather Jr. , though the deal eventaully fell through.
